「あつい」には、同じ発音で、意味がちがう言葉があります。
よく使う3つの意味を紹介します。
There are words in Japanese that have the same pronunciation as ‘atsui’ but different meanings. Here are three commonly used meanings:
1) 暑い hot
気温が高い。季節は夏。
The temperature is high. The season is summer.
今日は暑いですね。
It’s hot, so be careful.
暑いから、エアコンの温度を下げてください。
It’s hot, so it will cool down if you put ice in it.
暑いから、プールで泳ごう。
It’s hot, so let’s go swimming in the pool.
2) 熱い hot
物質の温度が高温であること。
High temperature of a substance.
熱いので、気を付けて。
It’s hot, so be careful.
熱いから、氷を入れたら冷えるよ。
It’s hot, so it will cool down if you put ice in it.
鍋がまだ熱いので、さわるとやけどするかも。
The pot is still hot, so touching it might cause a burn.
3) 厚い thick
物体の一面から、反対側の面までの距離。
The distance from one side of an object to the opposite side.
この本は厚いですね。読むのに時間がかかりそうです。
This book is thick. It looks like it will take a long time to read.
美味しそうなステーキですね。お肉が厚いです。
That steak looks delicious. The meat is thick.
壁が厚いので、外の音が気になりません。
The walls are thick, so I’m not bothered by outside noise.
