When we talk to someone in Japan, we often call family name & ‘さん’ as you know. On Business, we call a family name & their official position instead of ‘さん’. For exsample, you’re often heard ‘●●部長 ‘ or ‘□□課長’. But if you talk to a colleague, you can say ‘さん’.

日本では、相手(あいて)を呼(よ)ぶときに「名字(みょうじ)」+「さん」等(など)の敬称(けいしょう)をつけますが、職場(しょくば)では、「名字」+「役職(やくしょく)」で呼びます。●●部長(ぶちょう)、□□課長(かちょう)といった具合(ぐあい)です。

If you want to call your boss in Japan or Japanese companies, you should do family name & ‘役職’, for example, Tanaka ‘部長 ‘. In this case, Tanaka is ‘名字’, ‘部長’ is ‘役職名’. If you call a family name & ‘さん’ for your boss, he or she might be upset why they think that you’re rude. Because it’s politer way to calling family name & ‘役職’ than calling family name & ‘さん’ in Japanese.

日本で働(はたら)く方、日系(にっけい)企業(きぎょう)で働(はたら)く方(かた)は、上司(じょうし)に話(はな)しかけるときには、「名字(みょうじ)+役職名(やくしょくめい)」を使いましょう。例(たと)えば田中部長(たなかぶちょう)といった具合(ぐあい)です。この場合(ばあい)、田中が名字、部長が役職名です。
田中さん「名字+さん」で話しかけると、失礼(しつれい)な奴(やつ)だと思われて、イラっとされるかもしれません。上司(じょうし)の、田中さんの不愉快(ふゆかい)な理由(りゆう)は、日本語では、「名字+役職名」田中部長で呼ぶ方が「名字+さん」田中さんより丁寧(ていねい)だと考(かんが)えられているからです。

The words for an official position is said by ‘役職名(やくしょくめい)’ and ‘ 肩書(かたがき)’. ‘役職’ was put on right end of a business card in Japan. ‘肩(かた)’ means shoulder in Japanese, and ‘肩(かた)’ also has a meaning top-of -the end. ‘右(みぎ)’ is right. ‘肩書’ is origined by the word putting on the right end of card.

役職名を肩書(かたがき)ということもあります。日本の名刺(めいし)では、右肩(みぎかた)に役職を書(か)いているデザインが多(おお)かったことからきています。役職を右(みぎ)「肩(かた)」に「書く」で肩書です。

Now a days, business cards are designed by a lot of variety of styles. I checked it each of my cards ‘役職’ is put on. A few of them that ‘役職’ is put on right end of cards. A horizontal writing one, you can see ‘役職’ at the right of a name. If you have some Japanese business cards, let’s check where ‘役職’ is put on. I think it’s not often put on the right end of a card.

気(き)になったので、ここ数年(すうねん)いただいた名刺を見返(みかえ)してみたところ、名前(なまえ)の上部(じょうぶ)や下(した)に役職(やくしょく)を書くものが多く、右肩(みぎかた)に役職が印字(いんじ)されているデザインは少(すく)なかったです。また、下の図(ず)のように、横(よこ)向(む)き以外(いがい)に縦(たて)向きの名刺もあります。デザインの多様化(たようか)によって、右肩(みぎかた)が減(へ)ったのではないかと思(おも)われます。
